Diet and feeding
A varied omnivore diet: greens, other vegetables, and a measured amount of animal protein. Fatty dog food is a poor staple. Juveniles most days. Adults every other day or three times a week, in portions that do not produce a round, inactive animal.
Substrate
Cypress mulch, soil, or paper. Deep enough for a shallow burrow if you use a natural mix.
Health
Respiratory infection, metabolic bone disease, obesity, and parasites in wild-caught animals.
Handling
Support the body. They can bite if restrained. Wash your hands.
Husbandry ranges are general guidance for captive care, not a veterinary prescription or a permit. Confirm the gradient with your own thermometers. UV zones follow Baines et al., Journal of Zoo and Aquarium Research 4(1), 2016, https://www.jzar.org/jzar/article/view/150.
